We crammed into a small car with our huge suitcases on Wednesday, July 3rd to begin our long drive to Ocean Isle, North Carolina. Why would we do this? For a big week long family reunion of course! (With David's mom's family).
On this drive we would go through six states I have never before been in.
Our first stop- Georgia!
We spent the fourth of July with David's Uncle Bill and Aunt Kay who live near Atlanta.
Probably the biggest watermelon I've ever seen.
We had a nice big dinner/bbq inside (they had been experiencing monsoon like weather there). All the Atlanta family was able to stop in, which includes many cousins and their families, along with two aunts and uncles! Here are a few getting some food!
David and I did beautiful table decorating.
As we were driving to Uncle Dick and Aunt Merilee's house to stay for the night we stopped and watched a firework show.
I think a lot of the big shows were cancelled because of all the rain.
The next day, we continued on our drive. The scenery is beautiful with all the trees and how green everything is. Much of the highways are surrounded by trees.
On Friday the 5th, we were able to drive all the way to the North and South Carolina border. I met David's sister Elise, and her baby Elizabeth for the first time! That night we went out to dinner to a chinese restaurant and then walked along the beach. We stayed in Myrtle beach (about an hour south of Ocean Isle, where the family reunion is) since the house was not available until the next day.
Myrtle Beach at night.
Myrtle Beach was like a mini Las Vegas. After we checked into the hotel, we decided to go walk around. The streets were FULL of people. It was a little bit of a dirty place, luckily we are not having are family reunion there! It was still fun to go out and get a taste of the people there.
We walked up the pier where some guys were fishing. Here is what they caught.....
We would be swimming with many of those the next week I'm sure!
More to come..... cleaner and nicer beaches ahead.
What a fun trip! I'm jealous. Too bad about the rain, but I guess that's why it's so green.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Ya I having been in the Atlanta airport over there. And the Hwy lined with trees is totally Portland! Can't wait to see more!
